At KS3 students are assessed in GEM assessments in each subject.  These assessments take place throughout the year in the classroom, under test conditions.  The assessments are graded in one of the 4 categories Mastered, Secure, Developing or emerging as shown in the table below:

The table shows the GCSE grade the student would be expected to achieve at the end of Year 11 if they continue to achieve at that level.

Emerging - is only used where students are producing work at a level at which they are unlikely to be able to access the GCSE, should they continue to work at this level.

After each GEM assessment has been marked, the students complete DIRT “Dedicated Improvement & Reflection Time.”  This is time given to students to act on the feedback from the GEM tasks and to correct mistakes.
